President Trump and billionaire Elon Musk have traded public barbs and insults, rupturing a relationship that had been one of the most consequential in modern American politics. The feud exploded Thursday after Musk’s aggressive criticism of Trump’s tax and spending megabill.
What Trump said: The president said Musk, who stepped down from his role as the president’s cost-cutting czar last week, was suffering from “Trump derangement syndrome” and opposed the megabill because of its rollback of electric-vehicle tax credits. Trump also threatened to eliminate government subsidies and contracts for Musk’s businesses. The White House on Friday said it stood by its work through DOGE.
What Musk said: Musk, who spent hundreds of millions of dollars to help get Trump elected, said the president was ungrateful and wouldn’t be sitting in the Oval Office without him. The billionaire floated the idea of starting a third political party and agreed with a tweet that Trump should be impeached.
Musk threatened to decommission SpaceX’s Dragon vehicle, a ship NASA depends on for runs to the International Space Station, but later walked that back.
He also said Trump’s name was in the files on disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, which is why, he said, they haven’t yet been released.","images":[],"tags":[],"tradingPairs":["DOGE/USDT"],"quotearticleid":0}
