Hacker Launders $66.35M in Stolen Ethereum Through Tornado Cash
On August 31, 2025, Foresight News reported that a hacker responsible for stealing $81.5 million from Orbit Chain in early 2024 has continued laundering funds through Tornado Cash. Recently, the hacker moved 4,320 ETH, valued at $18.81 million, through the privacy protocol. Following the initial theft, the hacker converted most of the stolen assets into Ethereum at an average price of $2,301 per ETH, a value that has since doubled.
To date, the hacker has laundered 17,242 ETH, worth $66.35 million, via Tornado Cash. The remaining unlaundered assets are valued at $61.6 million, with the total value of the stolen funds increasing by $46.5 million due to ETH’s price appreciation. The hacker’s address currently holds 9,511 ETH, valued at $41.6 million, and 20 million DAI.
This ongoing activity highlights the challenges of tracking illicit cryptocurrency transactions and the use of privacy tools like Tornado Cash in obscuring fund trails.
