Morgan Stanley will offer cryptocurrency trading on E*Trade in the first half of 2026 in conjunction with Zerohash, a digital asset infrastructure startup.
On Tuesday, Reuters reported that E*Trade customers would first be able to trade Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana.
Morgan Stanley's action is due to industry competitiveness. Charles Schwab provides Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds, whereas Robinhood (HOOD) offers several cryptocurrencies.
Financial institutions entering the $3.9 trillion digital assets industry, with Bitcoin alone worth $2.25 trillion and Ethereum $506 billion, face significant risks.
The move to crypto trading represents a financial trend. Once considered speculative, cryptocurrencies have grown into a multi-trillion-dollar industry, attracting Wall Street banks, asset managers, and ordinary investors.
The paper notes that the Trump administration's favorable regulatory climate has encouraged financial institutions to expand their crypto products to benefit on its profitable potential.

In related news, Zerohash became a unicorn after raising $104 million from Interactive Brokers, Morgan Stanley, and SoFi.
Other large financial firms are also investigating crypto options. Citigroup may provide stablecoin custody services and crypto-focused ETFs, while Bank of America is apparently creating a stablecoin with no deadline.
Morgan Stanley CFO Sharon Yeshaya acknowledges stablecoins' potential advantages but notes that it is too early to judge their effect on the bank's operations.
Even JPMorgan Chase, headed by CEO Jamie Dimon, which had previously reservations about Bitcoin, is exploring stablecoins, signaling a change in industry opinions.
