Blaming China while starting the fire: Trump accuses China of “economic hostility” for not buying U.S. soybeans. Yet the shift in China’s purchasing behavior began only after the U.S. imposed tariffs first. China simply turned to other suppliers — a move of necessity, not hostility. No nation makes deals that bring losses or disrespect.
American goods are simply costlier right now. U.S. soybeans cost around $520 per ton, while Brazil and Argentina offer the same at about $430 — a $90 difference. Similarly, American cooking oil trades at $1.45–$1.60 per liter compared to $0.90–$1.10 from Asian suppliers. When prices rise and threats follow, loyalty fades. Global buyers choose affordability and stability.
Threats don’t make trade deals. Trump’s claim that “we can easily produce our own” ignores economic fundamentals. Trade isn’t built on pride — it’s built on efficiency. When tariffs become a weapon, nations like Brazil, Argentina, and Indonesia quietly capture the lost market share.
Collateral damage hits farmers hardest. Losing China, once the buyer of over 60% of U.S. soybean exports, leaves American farms with surplus grain and shrinking incomes. Government subsidies attempt to fill the gap, but in reality, taxpayers foot the bill. That’s not a win — it’s a disguised loss.
Meanwhile, crypto remains calm amid trade chaos. Each tariff shock, export ban, or political spat drives investors toward decentralized markets — Bitcoin, Ethereum, stablecoins, and tokenized commodities. When trade politics trembles, crypto stands neutral. The market may soon stop reacting to Trump’s tariff drama; historically, his escalations end in abrupt reversals.
Trade isn’t about friendship or loyalty — it’s about arithmetic. When your product costs $90 more per ton, the market doesn’t turn against you. It simply moves on.
