Launch: In Mar 2024, BlackRock rolled out BUIDL, a tokenized money-market fund on Ethereum with Securitize as transfer agent/placement agent. It targets qualified investors and started with a $5M minimum; tokens aim for $1 NAV and pay accrued yield as new tokens.
Multi-chain access: In 2025 BUIDL added a new share class on Solana and is now available across seven networks (Ethereum, Aptos, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Polygon, Solana) with Wormhole interoperability.
Scale: BUIDL surpassed $1B AUM by Mar 2025 and was cited as ~$2.9B by June as tokenized Treasuries accelerated.
Real utility: Since Jun 2025, Crypto.com and Deribit let certain clients post BUIDL as trading collateral—a big step for on-chain Treasuries in market infrastructure.
What’s next: BlackRock filed to offer DLT (blockchain) share classes for its ~$150B Treasury Trust in partnership with BNY Mellon—moving traditional fund registries toward on-chain records.
Why it matters: Tokenization brings faster settlement, 24/7 transferability, and programmable distribution to conservative, yield-bearing assets—early days and mainly institutional, but the direction is clear. 🚀
