America’s top banks — JPMorgan, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and Citi — are refusing to lend Argentina $20 billion unless they get strong guarantees first.
They want to know what collateral Argentina can offer or if the U.S. Treasury will back the loan. Their caution is understandable: Argentina has defaulted nine times, including three since 2000, and has been shut out of global lending for years.
The loan is part of Trump’s $40 billion aid plan for President Milei’s government, which already secured a $20 billion currency swap.
Without solid guarantees, Wall Street isn’t taking the risk.
